Wat is Paracord 550?
Paracord is in allerlei diktes, kleuren en patronen verkrijgbaar. De verschillende diktes worden vaak aangeduid als "Type" of met de bijbehorende breekkracht (in pounds). Zo wordt het meest gebruikte "Paracord Type III" ook wel "550 Paracord" genoemd, omdat het een breekkracht van 550 lbs. (249 kg) heeft. Naast Type III wordt ook Type II veel gebruikt voor meer elegant knoopwerk en 'Type I', 'Micro' en 'Nano' vaak als accessoire koord. De term "Milspec Paracord" wordt gebruikt voor Paracord dat wordt gemaakt op basis van de strenge U.S. Militaire specificaties en is erg geschikt voor buitensport knoopwerk.
Nylon of Polyester Paracord?
Door de populariteit van het paracord zijn er inmiddels veel varianten te verkrijgen. Het merendeel van paracord gebruikers geeft de voorkeur aan nylon. De belangrijkste reden is dat nylon natuurlijker aanvoelt dan het meer plastic polyester. Ook is nylon paracord meer elastisch, dit wordt als prettig ervaren door knopers.
